Overview
When painting a basketball backboard, sticking to regulation is important; you don't want to get used to playing with a wrong-sized center rectangle, for example, only to see it affect your game on the court. Luckily, with a few easy measurements and the proper colors, you should have a properly painted backboard up and ready in little time.
Step 1
Use a ruler to draw a border (with a marking pencil) around the inside of the backboard, exactly 2 inches from the backboard's edge, all the way around.
Step 2
Paint this 2-inch-wide border. If your backboard is transparent, the paint must be white. If you backboard is white, then your paint must be black. Allow the paint to dry.
Step 3
Center a 24-inch-long horizontal pencil line (using the ruler) exactly 6 inches from the base of the backboard. This is the base of your backboard's center rectangle.
Step 4
Use the ruler to draw the two sides of the rectangle, measuring exactly 18 inches in height. Complete the rectangle by ruling and drawing the top line, connecting the two side lines.
Step 5
Draw a smaller rectangle within the large rectangle, exactly 2 inches from the sides of the original.
Step 6
Paint the 2-inch-wide area between these two rectangles to form the center rectangle.
